Sensitive skin can be so daunting- but it doesn’t have to be. Follow these three skincare adjustments to start improving your sensitive skin!
1. Using The Wrong Actives
Actives like Salicylic and Glycolic Acid (that have a smaller molecular size) can sometimes do more harm than good.
These actives can lead to more sensitivity, inflammation, breakouts and even dermatitis in sensitive skin.
Instead focus on calming and strengthening ingredients such as green tea, chamomile and squalane.
Then eventually introduce an active such as Azelaic Acid that has a larger molecular size and calming properties!
2. Fragrance
Becasue companies can hide trade secrets (aka ingredients they don’t want to disclose) under “fragrance” we do not fully know what is in a product that lists fragrance as an ingredient.
“Some components of fragrance formulas may have a potential to cause allergic reactions or sensitivities for some people.” -FDA
Opt instead for fragrance free or natural scents that are non-irritating such as lemon verbena or rose.
3. Too Many Products
Sensitive skin truly thrives on less is more.
Clients often come in with a routine that is too long, full of too many actives (or the wrong ones) that is actually further irritating the skin.
Stick to a simple routine like:
- Cleanser
- Active geared toward primary skin concern
- Moisturizer
- Mineral SPF
Save your skin (and your money) by simplifying your routine!
